Ultimate Cat Lady Cares For Over 1,000 Cats (Video)

The first time we heard about a woman living with over 1,000 cats, we were prepared for the worst. We've all seen shows about cat hoarders. Our foster cats came from a hoarding situation.

But don't fret, readers! This story is nothing short of inspirational and heartwarming.

Meet Lynea Lattanzio, 68, the self-proclaimed ultimate crazy cat lady. "I’m at the top of the list of eccentric cat ladies," Lattanzio says. "I don’t think there has been anyone who has lived with 28,000 cats in 24 years. That’s probably a record."

Twenty-eight thousand cats?! If that doesn't make a believer out of you, Lattanzio gave up her spacious 5-bedroom house to live in a small mobile home - just so she can better care for more than 1,000 felines.

"Back then I was single, had no kids and bought this 4,200 square foot home and thought, 'What am I thinking?' I started taking in cats, but it wasn’t my intention to have 1,000 plus cats - but it’s happened one step at a time."

Funding her rescues from her own pocket, Lattanzio began adopting and rehousing cats in the early ’90s. Eventually training to become a vet technician, this dedicated cat lady was able to grow her goals and find the funds needed for food, litter, maintenance, staffing, and vets.

Lynea’s trailer is situated on her six-acre property in California, known as Cat House on the Kings. It’s the state’s largest no-cage, no-kill sanctuary for feral and abandoned cats. She and her team of volunteers care for about 800 adult cats and 300 kittens.

As for the spacious 5-bedroom house?  It's gone to the cats!  It consists of a kitchen where all the cats are fed by staff, a wood stove room to keep the winters warm, an indoor 'kitty garden' to help acclimate any cats who have spent their lives indoors, and even a 'condo room' with beds, food, water, and benches for the cats to sleep on.

Outside, there is the 'pasture project' - a fenced enclosure with two sheds, patios, and enough grass and trees for them to play without getting bored.

In the video below, courtesy of Barcroft TV, you’ll get a glimpse into the incredible Cat House on the Kings, home to over 800 cats and kittens.

You can read more about Cat House on the Kings on their site. With over 100 cats currently available for adoption (113, to be exact), Cat House has their hands full. If you're not ready to adopt, they also have a Foster program - and you can also sponsor a cat!

I’ve known about Cat House on the Kings for several years. Although I can’t donate now, I hope to in the future when I can get a job! I think that all people that care for animals are special people.
