This Two-Nosed Cat is Looking for a Forever Home

Meet Memphis.

A post shared by Memphis the 2 nosed Cat ❤️ (@memphis2noseoddcat) on

Memphis is only a year old and has already experienced more than his fair share of trials tribulations in his short time here. Memphis was born with a congenital birth defect that resulted in his two adorably boop-able noses.

Unfortunately for this special feline, though, he was high on the list to be euthanized. He was surrendered to a shelter when his family could no longer care for him, where the local shelters were threatening to put Memphis down. But that's when The Odd Cat Sanctuary in Salem, Massachusetts, stepped in.

Tara Kay, founder of the Odd Cat Sanctuary, received a message from one of their volunteers about this special cat in need of rescue. When Tara heard about Memphis' up-in-the-air fate, she knew she had to act fast. She took Memphis in without a second thought.

"He was born with deformed soft palate, smushed face and a cleft lip," says Tara. "Both noses are functional. He does breathe louder and snores! But he does great."

The Odd Cat Sanctuary is dedicated to helping special needs cats like Memphis. They take on special needs cats that have no other options and are facing euthanasia“ He’s a trooper who has been through a lot,” says Tara. “He’s unique, special, and different. That’s an ‘Odd’ cat!”

The right home for Memphis will be with people who understand that he — and other special cats like him — should be loved for his differences, not in spite of them. Because different is beautiful!  “They are unique, special, and so deserving of wonderful forever homes,” says Tara.

Even if you can't open your home to Memphis, there are ways you can help! Animal rescues like the Odd Cat Sanctuary are always looking for foster homes for their animals in need. Meowingtons is part of an Office Cats Foster Program with our local Humane Society, and fostering cats is such a rewarding and heartwarming experience.

Foster homes help provide cats with caring, stable environments for cats in need, important to help socializing kitties, which can be crucial in preparing them to move to a forever home! Without the efforts of fosters, many more cats would go without help.

To learn more about this adorable cat, you can follow Memphis on Instagram.

Memphis is currently located at the Odd Cat Sancutary in Salem, Massachusets. If you’re interested in adopting this special feline, you can complete an online adoption form or find more information at The Odd Cat Sanctuary.

I just lost my MissKitty, aka, Sweetcat on 5/21/18. My husband & grown son are devastated. MissKitty, I know would love for for us to have another human kitty who is similar in looks to her, because I know she doesn’t want us to cry every time we mention her forever. MissKitty was a ragdoll breakpoint, no papers, a nubby, no tail, died from chronic pancreatitis which developed after her enormous mourning of her little companion, Ginger, who i took in 7 yrs ago starving and dying in the middle of road on my way home on 5/21/18 of last yr. She survived, but was dx a year later w/type1diabetes. We treated her for 5 yrs e/insulin, diabetic canine food. Had her cataracts removed w/her vets approval last year. 6 weeks later she died from acute pancreatis, which autopsy showed enzymes off the chart! They said at emergency vet 24 hr clinic that she should have never been cleared for surgery, too much stress in her state of liver failure at time! Her regular vet never even checked her enzymes on approval but we didn’t know what he was supposed to do for clearance. We did not try to sue him, only called & told him he needed to go back to school. We still cry over Ginger & MissKitty mourned & looked for her for months & started going downhill afterwards. They were inseparable!
We need someone like Memphis to fill this giant hole in our hearts and I am sure Ginger & MissKitty would be so happy if we took Memphis into our home! And this opportunity to help Memphis would definitely help us all!
We currently live in Ooltewah, Tn., but my husband is retiring on 7/5/2018, & he will be moving to Homassasa, Fl soon afterwards, I will be leaving after 1st ever grandparent duty at my daughter’s home in Chattanooga between Sept and Nov to join my husband in Florida.
Hopefully one of us moving there with Memphis either in July or the the latter date.
Memphis would be an inside only cat, sleep in the bed cat with parents if he so chooses!
    Thank you so much!!
