Ever wonder how people get the nicknames they do? How on earth did we get the name Dick from Richard? Or Bob from Robert? Or Ned from Edward? Recently on Twitter, people gave an insight into how these nicknames may have evolved. After one Twitter user shared how their dog's nickname evolved, folks around the Twitterverse began sharing their own pet name evolutions. And the results are pretty amazing!

My first ever cat, Smokette, lived to be 20 years old. She passed a few years ago. In her 20 years, she was rarely ever called by her full name. She went from Smokette to Smo, then on to "Schmo", Smoke-a-Woke-a to S'Mowgli. As she aged, her meow eventually turned into a raspy sort of bleat, so we took to calling her the Old Goat. But mostly, she was Smo. Rest in peace, Smo!
Impulse became Impy, pomp, pompeya, pompy, and ultimately pompeya pompeya pompeya features yeah. Obviously.
Cleopatra became Cleo, clumpy, clumpotron, clupenhags, and ultimately Crap. Obvs.
Charlie became chug, chunky, chunky wunky, and ultimate chilly willy. Of course.
And finally Misty became Mist, Mistos, mr mistopheles, Misty poos, Mistins, mistinator and finally Boy. Clearly.
Mo: Momus, Meemo, Mosephine, Mosé, Moses, Momary Glans (that one from my boyfriend ?), Squeaker, Squeak, Nugget, Fuzz Nugget, Fuzz Dumpling, Dumpling, Dummy, Stinker, Snugbutt, Scooper, Scoops, Scoopy Lou, but most commonly: Beebo.
We have two gray cats we named after old men. Gandalf we call G, g-dalf or asshole and Alfred we call Fred, Frid, Fird, Fird Bird, sweet boy or any high pitch one syllable sounds.
Her name was Sapphire when I got her from the Humane Society but I changed it to Stella. She goes by Stella, Stella-Ella, Ella, Stellie-Ellie, Fatso, Fatty, Baby girl, etc.
His name is Was Timid, because he was shy, then timothy, timmy, timp, timpert, timporton, shrimp, shrint, donald shrimp, shint, timpt, timz, timp.
