50 Names For Cats With Tortitude

From their mosaic fur coats of orange and black to their association with good luck, it’s safe to say that tortoiseshell cats are one of the most colorful cats to share your home with. Torties are also known for their colorful personalities, affectionately called "tortitude". And if you’re welcoming a new tortie cat into your family and home--congratulations on your new best friend! Now it’s time to give your newest furry family member a name.

Because the vast majority of tortoiseshell cats are female (only 1 in every 3,000 calicos are male), the names we’ve selected lean that way. But we’ve also included names for the rare male Tortie and names that can be used for both male or female!

My year old tortie is Scout, though most times we pronounce it lazily as Scoot or Scootie. Because she eats so much (13lbs), I’ve nicknamed her Taco Bell to match Atty. We adopted her calico sister Miss Attybelle at the same time, when they were about 3 months old. I’m a first time cat owner. Holy crap, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. They’re both nuts and my husband and I love it. Our 12 yr old tabby Tigerlily, who was adopted a month after them, still isn’t sure what to think.

    My tortie is Gipsy!

  • Carolyn

Her name is Shelly. Got her and her Russian Blue brother Tommy from a shelter thru PetsMart. I hit the jackpot that day! Very sassy and tortitude overload.

  • Hillary

We have Sugar Bear and Saffron Butter, my loves!

  • KIMBERLY INGLESTON

We have 6 rescues and one of them is my husband’s “rare, perfect, sweet, china doll Princess” (his words!) dilute Tortie/Calico. She is named Ophelia and she is aptly named. She is moody and always acts like she is a long suffering member of the household because we have other cats- even towards her sister Beatrice (also from Shakespeare).
