How to Help Your Cat Cope With Fireworks July 01 2016, 1 Comment
It's not uncommon for a cat to be afraid of loud noises, especially thunder and fireworks. A cat with anxiety is not a happy cat! It is important not to forget about your little fluff ball when you go out to enjoy fireworks. They will often hide or start jumping and running around like a crazy person (not uncommon) but here are some things you can do to help.
- If you are staying home keep calm and try and help your cat feel safe. Talk with a soothing voice and don't chase or try and pick up your cat. You might even try to play with your cat to distract from the noise of thunder of fireworks.
- Make sure your cat has a safe place to hide! Most cats typically run under a bed to escape loud noises. If it is still really load near their favorite place, provide one in the middle of the house away from windows. Try leaving a few kibbles of their favorite food or treat in a safe quiet room to help them relax.
All in all your cat will be fine, but helping them feel more comfortable will go a long way! If your cat is super freaked out don't leave them alone. Stay with them and try and keep them feeling safe and happy. If you are planning a BBQ or having a 4th of July party at your house maybe see if you can leave your cat at a friends place they know and feel comfortable at.
