Denver Woman Gives Birth to Kitten January 16 2018, 26 Comments

Never thought you'd read that headline, did you? Us either. But the Schultzes of Denver, Colorado, recently welcomed a bouncing baby kitten into the world and they shared their news on Facebook - along with photos documenting the miracle that is childbirth. Or is that kitten birth?

The Facebook kitten birth announcement read: "On 1/10/18 we welcome our first baby kitten, a neutered male DLH. He is 22" long and weighed 6 pounds 7 oz. He is already eating solid food. Name to be announced. We are so in love "

These days, people post photo announcements for just about everything, with birth announcements leading the way. Oversharing of important life events is very "in" and totally trending.

For Lucy Schultz, the proud new cat mom, it seemed like the purrfect opportunity to have a little fun - and create a little parody.

Schultz is a professional wedding photographer and says she’s seen her fair share of baby announcements. So, she decided to do her own kitten announcement and had her friend, Elizabeth Woods-Darby, take the photos.

“I’ve been thinking of this idea for a while because I’m totally a crazy cat lady who didn’t have any cats,” Schultz said. “So, I decided as soon as I got a cat, it’s a big milestone for me and sort of like the hallmark of me settling down and starting my menagerie of future cats," she noted. "The first one is pretty special.”

“It was definitely crossing my mind ‘am I really doing this?’” Schultz said. “People think we’re really extra, and it’s the cat that’s the most extra. We were just laughing at his expressions, and how he fell asleep.”

Naturally, there were rather mixed reviews to Schultz's parodic photoset. “Part of the reason it’s been so popular is because of the polarity of people’s responses,” Schultz said. “You either love it or hate it, and there’s a lot of discussion going on.”

Schultz says the goal wasn’t to make people uncomfortable, and that if people don’t like her sense of humor, they can choose not to click on all the photos.

In a world where social media is king, oversharing of important life events is very "in" and totally trending and it's this that Schultz seems to be playing on.

Schultzs' kitty daddy even joined in on the fun, and they poke fun at the "New Dad" reactions. Welcome to fatherhood, bud.

Without the shock factor of some of the "oversharing" photos, the kitten birth announcement has some rather heartwarming photos with the new kitten, as of yet still unnamed, playing his part of peaceful newborn to a tee.
