Why Cats Go Crazy for Catnip. July 12 2016, 2 Comments
We all have our vices. Coffee, alcohol, and junk food are all something us humans are guilty of indulging in from time to time. I mean the best part of being an adult is being able to eat your dessert before dinner if you feel like it.
Cats are no different. If you have a cat, then you have a stash of catnip somewhere hidden in your house for when you cat has had a bad day or you just need some entertainment.
Catnip is actually part of the mint family. The essential oil in catnip, nepetalactone, is what causes your cat to act all kinds of crazy. Each cat has their own unique effect but it usually involves rolling around on it and rubbing their faces in it while sniffing it. Some cats will start running around like their tail is on fire while others have the opposite effect and they mellow out. If your cat mellows out it is probably because they have ingested the catnip rather than just sniffed it.
Here are some cats indulging in their own vice, catnip.
